An early birthday dinner/ going away dinner was on the cards for Tina who has jetted off to the states with her boyfriend and family for a wedding and subsequently a holiday getaway! *jealousssss* Dinner was held at the fancy smancy Sebel Playford which is absolutely gorgeous inside. High ceilings, chandelier lights and large windows overlooking the streets and traffic of North Terrace.
Fresh organic bread with South Australian marinated olives; $3.50
Traditional Thai inspired Ma hor – chicken, prawn and pork simmered in palm sugar with crunchy shallots, garlic and peanuts, served on fresh organic pineapple; $9.00
A very very interesting dish with a punch of flavour. The pineapple base is sweet and juicy and is a nice refreshing taste to counterbalance the meat and peanuts (much like a satay sauce).
Kipfler potatoes roasted in duck fat with rosemary salt; $9.50
Papparedelle with organic Saltbush lamb – braised lamb neck, mushrooms, broccoli and parsley; $28.50
H and C found the papparedelle to be slightly on the thick side, the lamb too stringy with not enough sauce incorporated into the pasta.
Roast pork sirloin with boudin noir, black cabbage, cauliflower and apple; $32.50
This was my main and I was incredibly disappointed by the serving size! I was starving prior mains and definitely still starving after this main! Four pieces of pork ain’t gonna fill me up, that’s for sure! The boudin noir had a grilled crispy outer layer whilst the centre was soft and tasty – almost like the texture of liver – soft, velvety yet kind of grainy. The black cabbage tasted much like roasted seaweed which I absolutely love, crispy paper thin goodness with a smidgen of salt to taste! The cauliflower.. there was only two but hey, they were cooked well and the apple added that sweetness that melded well when teamed with the pork. Good dish but serving size, a major let down!
Barossa corn fed chicken breast with Savoy cabbage, bacon and roast pearl onions; $31.00
Onkarparinga venison with pearly barley, peas, chestnuts, Swiss brown mushrooms and bitter chocolate; $33.00
Citrus marshmallow: compressed pineapple, coriander, Malibu and pineapple sorbet; $13.50
Callebaut chocolate terrine: organic milk jelly, roast banana mousse and chocolate soil; $13.90
Everything was a winner except for the organic milk jelly which was bland and tasteless. The chocolate log was divine! Soft velvety sweet cocoa goodness! :)~
White chocolate and yoghurt ganache: strawberries, poached rhubarb, raspberry sorbet and pistachios; $13.90
Dish of the night! The white chocolate and yoghurt ganache were a match made in candy world! Oh and the pistachios just added another dimension to the dish, crunch and texture. Absolutely delicious!
Service: 3.5/5 – Very attentive waiter with a good knowledge of the menu albeit a bit clumsy when serving food. (Kept dropping cutlery throughout the entire night)
