What’s the hottest place around Adelaide at the moment?
Yessirree.. this place, as its name suggests, is an eggless dessert hangout for the old, young and in betweens!
I headed out early with friend in toe to Eggless before doors were even open. ( Mon-Tues Closed. Wed-Sun 8pm-Late ) No, we’re not keen. Not at all. We’re the first ones in and followed by a few other patrons. Give or take 15 minutes, the place is a full house! Now that’s saying something!
It’s not exactly hard to choose what you want, the hard bit is choosing what NOT to have! But there’s a solution to this sweet decadent dilemma: get the tasting platter which consists of 4 different desserts – for those who want to try a bit of everything or just can’t make up their minds. I fall into both categories. 🙂 (Heck, if I could stomach it, I would’ve opted for more! More I say.)

Dessert Tasting Platter: Turkish Delight ice cream with Persian fairy floss, black sesame panna cotta, pear and honey cheesecake and green tea tiramisu, $18.00. Oh bless my sweet soul!
Dessert of the night? Hands down, the Turkish Delight ice cream. I was never a fan of Turkish Delight, always found the smell too rosey and pungent for my tastes, but this! THIS was amazing. The ice cream was refreshing, cool and extremely light with hints of turkish delight/rose gels or tapioca (I think), they were splendid! It provided a nice contrast in texture and taste, and how could I forget the light airy fairy floss on top. WINNER.
Had my first panna cotta at the Lion Hotel not long ago and wasn’t very impressed. But I was still excited to try this baby out cause one of my all time favourite ice cream flavours is that: black sesame – there’s something so rich and nutty about it! The panna cotta was smooth, light and creamy. Not bad, not bad at all. I just wished there was a stronger hint of black sesame flavour through it.
Second favourite of the night: Pear and Honey cheesecake! My oh my, how did they concoct this lovely thing without any eggs?! Flavourful, creamy… and the crumble base, delightful! <3
Finally, the green tea tiramisu. Wasn’t a huge fan of it the first time so I knew what to expect: I couldn’t taste the green tea flavour through the sponge and the cream to sponge ratio is all wrong. LOL.
The Eggless crew are shutting up shop for 2 weeks (25th Aug 2010 – 7th Sep 2010) for a well deserved break and will be back with a new menu for September! Til then, see you!
