So it’s 3am in the morning, you’ve just stepped out of a club and you need something to absorb that last cocktail you drowned down. Sure, there’s a 24/7 Macca’s around the corner but you’re not in the mood for a big mac or nuggets. You’re after something more gourmet-ish, something more meaty… something like a good ol meat pie with extra tomato sauce – and that’s when the Bakery on O’Connell comes into the picture. The best part is, it’s open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. BOOYA!
There’s a good crowd when H and I arrive, (mind you, we drop by at a much earlier hour – 930p after a dance workshop) and a short line. It’s my first time at the bakery and I marvel at all the sweets and desserts in the display window… and that is when I see the golden rays shining from the oven display closer to the counter. It literally sings out to me, and I somehow find myself gawking at the window display contemplating on what pastry delight I am going to devour!
Steak pie with bacon and cheese and sauce; $4.10
I settle on the steak pie with bacon and cheese. Chunky steak pieces with hints of bacon with a cheesy base at the bottom of the pie – satisfying goodness and a cheap eat !
