It’s very rare where I get a whole weekday off to do absolutely nothing, let alone a whole week off (yay to holidays), so a trip out for lunch and to soak in some sun (much needed vitamin D) was in action! Friend and I proceeded to check out the ‘Red Door Bakery‘ for a caffeine and carb hit! Unfortunately, it was closed as they were off on holidays, and even if they weren’t, they weren’t open on Tuesdays. On top of that, Queen Street Cafe was closed for the holidays too! So a trip down Melbourne Street proved to be more successful and we hit by the Store again (in hopes of ordering that amazing chicken dukkah salad I had previously).
Banana milkshake, ‘The Store Crazy Monkey’ (banana, honey and espresso smoothie); $6.00 and $7.00
The Store salad of crisp sweet potato, pancetta, mushrooms, parmesan, semi-dried tomatoes, red onion and pepitas; $17.90
I ordered the Store Crazy Monkey as per a commenters’ suggestion and my oh my, what a great kick to the day! Caffeine, banana, and bubbles!! Absolutely loved it, smooth velvet smoothie with hints of banana and coffee. Can’t wait to give this a go at home!
Paprika chicken salad with ruby grapefruit, red onion, snow peas, pistachios and garlic, mint yoghurt dressing; $18.90
I was really hoping to order the chicken salad I got the first time but the Store’s menu has been updated (which is fair enough, seasonal menus FTW), so what better chance to try something new. The ruby grapefruit and snow peas piqued my interest but even so, I didn’t really enjoy the salad. I found the mint yoghurt dressing very underwhelming… it was like it wasn’t even there; the tartness and citric acid from the grapefruit was surprisingly pleasant as well as the pistachios and snow peas – great texture and crunch, shame there wasn’t much of it.
Salads underwhelming this time around, but will be back for more crazy monkeys!
