Patisserie Jin, Malvern

TGIF!!! The weather this week has been splendid! A drastic change to the wintery wet cold that we were experience the week previous. What have you guys got planned for the weekend?! Food with fam and friends? A catch up with friends over coffee and something sweet?

A catch up sesh was due with P, so we both headed down to Patisserie JIN just outside of the city in Malvern for our dose of sugar and calories for the night! The interior is sleek, modern and fun with a long display cabinet lining one wall showcasing a variety of specialty cakes and desserts. We’re one of the first ones there but it didn’t take long for patrons to start filing in.

Patisserie Jin, watermelonade
Watermelonade – a concoction of watermelon juice and soda water – fizzy, juicy and refreshing. It comes out in a cute little jar with ice, shake and pour.

Patisserie Jin
Apple Tartin with vanilla ice cream

The tart pastries are extremely light, airy and flaky and once bitten, crumbles away. Not sure if I ‘dig’ it, but it ain’t too bad.

Patisserie Jin
Apple and Lemon cake

Pretty little thing ain’t it? The shiny, tangy, sweet, lemony drops of gel pulled me in along with the green sugar crystals. The mousse cake is tangy and texture smooth… lovely presentation, as for the experience as a whole? I’m not entirely sold.

Lots of novelty and cute details in presentation though which is always a win in my books.

Thank you for the terrible customer service I received last night at Patisserie Jin. Although I may have been using a jumponit voucher I don’t believe that means you can then treat customers with such a rude and inappropriate attitude. Just to warn other possible jumponit users that you don’t have a choice of desserts as I would think a crème brulee is classified a dessert yet they didn’t want to honour that. They’re arguments were that the crème brulee is too expensive (price is $13.50 which is $1.50 more than other desserts) and the total value should equate to $34 value (even though they said you could have 2 other desserts at $12 each and 2 drinks at $6.50 each it still goes over the $34 value). Also be warned that if they’re not happy with you then they will speak to each other in another language so you can’t understand but you definitely know it’s about you. Another warning which I’m sure other people would have experienced is that you can’t use the voucher unless you make a booking and the catch is, you can only make bookings for Monday to Wednesday. Maybe they could have written that on the conditions of the voucher? Just a thought. But still be prepared to hear an earful if you do call and make a booking and when you get there they accuse you of not making a booking. I guess you can understand they’re frustration as they are so busy with empty tables on a Tuesday night.

A final thank you to the lady who swore the “F” word whilst we were walking out the door. The professionalism as you can see is of a very low standard here.

      Oh boo, that totally sucks.

I’m kind of apprehensive about going back cause I have one of those JumpOnIt deals! Tried going there a couple of months back, but like you, they said that the voucher was only valid on Mondays through to Wednesdays (which clearly should have been stipulated in their terms and conditions) and haven’t found time to go back during the week.

I guess the sour service completely dampened your thoughts on their desserts?

Will be blogging about this place once and when I decide to go back and put that voucher to use!

Thanks for your review nevertheless. 🙂
