One of my favourite places to grab a coffee and a delicious meal to kick start the weekend is Queen Street Cafe located in the western suburbs. The Elizabeth Street that the cafe is located on has a handful of little quirky shops, a hairdresser, cafes and a bakery – which I will touch upon shortly!
That one Saturday morning that I turned up on was freezing! It was windy and cold and unfortunately for N and I, the place was packed out with only tables outside for those brave enough to battle the cold. We braved the cold for a short while whilst waiting for a table to free up inside and alas, we score ourselves a spot by the window bar.
Kicking off with some liquid gold in the form of a soy latte. Mmmm~
Blue swimmer crab omelette with fresh herbs; $17.90
Duck, chilli, porcini mushroom risotto; $22.90
I chose the risotto which is out of character for me as I’m not much of a risotto person at all. Instead, I’m usually the one stealing bites of other people’s risotto but the sight of duck, chilli and porcini on their blackboard menu drew me in. Presentation wise, it looked ‘plonked’ on and I found the risotto ever so slightly undercooked and firm; the dish was flavourful but lacked the bite of spiciness that I was hoping to get from the chillis. Overall, not bad but I think I’m going to revert back to their breakfast menu.
Definitely recommended, best to make bookings on the weekend as it is a very popular spot!
