Twas a Friday night when N and I caught up at Devour, we arrived early and got ourselves a table but to ensure yourself a spot, best to make a reservation cause it gets quite busy as the night wears on! We made the visit based on the news via facebook that the pork buns were back on the menu! Something that I’ve always wanted to try and it’s the closest thing I could get to David Chang’s famous pork buns so it was definitely worth a try.
Two orders were placed for these morsels of goodness along with a chocolate fondant with peanut ice cream to share.
Pork buns, $8.00 for two
The bun was soft and pillowy; the pork was extremely tender and just melted in my mouth with each bite. The hoisin sauce provided flavour and sweetness with scallions and cucumbers giving each mouthful a much needed crunch. One downside that I had with these morsels of delight were that they’re on the fatty/oily side. By the time I finished my first bun, my plate had a small puddle of oil/fat which coated the second bun to a slippery shiny bun. Nevertheless, I still happily devoured my way through them with no fuss! N and I thoroughly enjoyed the buns and I for one, cannot wait to try the original pork buns in NYC sometime in the near future. 😉
Chocolate fondant, caramelised banana and peanut butter ice cream, $12.00
Next up, dessert: THIS is one damn good HOT chocolate fondant. The chocolate oozed out the moment the spoon was put through it; the chocolate is not overly sweet and had a deep rich cocoa flavour (just the way I like it). The peanut butter ice cream was absolute bliss! It was like peanut butter… but better cause it was cold, smoother and didn’t have that ‘sticky’ consistency that peanut butter is known to having (You guys know what I mean?) – it was just damn good. 🙂 Probably a good thing that they don’t sell these things in tubs else my waist line would be in very big trouble!
