Burger Theory

Sooooo… the word on the street is that Burger Theory makes a mean burger. A mean burger from a food truck. Yup, that’s right. Those food trucks/vans that you often see on American TV shows where people get their burritos, burgers and hot dogs? They’re here in Adelaide and I hope it’s here to stay (best thing ever)!

To locate the Burger Theory food truck, you’ll need to follow these guys on facebook or twitter to find out their whereabouts through their updates. Be on the lookout cause they might just be around the corner from your workplace during lunch hour. 🙂

Last Friday, Burger Theory set up shop on Ebezener Place/Union Street at noon and the race was on for CBear and I to get there to avoid a possible line up. The race was lost and boy oh boy was there a looooooOooooong line or what?! CBear and I lined up patiently whilst battling with our angry hungry stomachs and the smell of grilled burger patties wafting through the air. After an hour or so, we got to the front of the line and orders were placed with gusto!

“2 x number 1 burgers, a cookie and a coke please!”

We were given a buzzer and moved aside whilst waiting patiently for the buzzer to go off. Thankfully it didn’t take much longer and we’re presented with these babies:

Buzzer
No. 1 burger: 100% Coorong Angus Beef, ground daily and served in a Breadtop bun with iceberg lettuce, tomato, American cheese and truck sauce; $8.00
Small Batch soft baked triple chocolate cookie; $2.50

Let me just say, once we got our burgers, we literally killed it in 5 minutes. OH. SO. SATISFYING. The wait was so worth it. The fact that the burger is encased in a Breadtop bun gets brownie points from me. The thick beef patty was juicy, seasoned well and cooked medium. All elements complimented each other wonderfully; the crunch from the lettuce, the sweetness from the tomato and the melted cheese combined with the ‘truck’ sauce and the slight crunch from the toasted bread top bun. Just… so good. So much so that I went back the following day! And finally, that cookie… is one damn good cookie. Soft, chewy, sweet, chocolaty with a hint of salt from the sea salt flakes. Seriously, best cookie ever, although for $2.50 a pop, it’s slightly expensive but when compared to a macaron (average $2.50 each), the cookie takes the cake!

Bring on round 2!

It’s a lovely Saturday afternoon and I’m ready for another burger after a much needed gym session! I’m joined by N and we make sure we get in early to avoid another possible line up; however, much to my delight, there was no line up this time around! YAY!!

Time to change it up and order myself a No. 2 burger 😉

No. 1 Iceberg lettuce, tomato, American cheese and Truck sauce; $8.00
No. 2 Australian pancetta, onion confit and Adelaide Blue cheese sauce; $10.00

NB: Ok, seriously salivating whilst typing this out now. 🙁

This time around, I took my time savouring the burger. Can’t say it made much of a difference cause I still gobbled the thing up in a few minutes flat! Thumbs up from N as she delightfully attacks her No. 1 :). Burger No. 2 was just as good as No. 1 with the sweetness from the onion confit (SO. GOOD.), saltiness from the pancetta and melted blue cheese. If I had to choose which one I liked more, I’d say No. 1 but if they could combine the 2 and make a No. 3 with onion confit in No. 1… that would be the ultimate burger. (It’s almost like a maths quiz now, you guys still following? :P)

I know where I’m going to get my burgers from now on. They also make burritos and fries which should be “coming soon”, a few more visits and I would have covered their entire menu! So who’s in?!

Psst… hey guys, if you head over to their website, they have a calendar with all the places that they’ll be at in the coming weeks!
