Vego and Love’n It, Adelaide

Vego and lovin’ it is a little underground upperground hub in the east end of Adelaide on Rundle Street. This little eatery is a popular hub for locals and for those hip youngsters that know of this place. Wedged between ‘Naked’ and ‘Cherri Bellini’ stands a bright yellow doorway leading up to a flight of narrow stairs – one that I’ve never noticed until now!

Up the flight of stairs and through the door to your left is a small room adorned with a mix’n’match of tables, chairs, displays, posters, records and record sleeves, magazine covers, postcards and mosaic framed pieces of art work. Menu cards adorn the wall and the places was full to the brim with customers. Our group of 4 arrived just before 1pm on a Friday afternoon and snagged the last available table! The burger sizes are known to be huge and generous, so a suggestion to light eaters: get the half burger! It’ll fill you up nicely! 🙂

The friendly waiter takes down our orders and proceeds into the kitchen and it doesn’t take long, for these babies to come out!

Tofu burger and tempeh burger; $12.00 each
1/2 Tempeh burger and half Mexican burger; $8.00 each

My half Mexican burger comes out drizzled in a chilli and cheese sauce with a side of nachos; the burger was juicy and full of flavour thanks to the sauce which was incredibly light (who would’ve thought!). The lettuce and tomato slices add freshness and a light crunch followed by a nacho or two after each burger bite. Towards the end of my burger, the bread got a bit soggy as the sauce had seeped through but hey, still very enjoyable (maybe I should ask for sauce on the side next time 😉 )!

Their menu also consists of freshly squeezed fruit juices, wraps and soups, teas and coffee – and they’re all cheap too (who doesn’t love a cheap feed?)!  🙂

Unfortunately you can’t hit up this joint on the weekends or late night for dinners, they’re only opened on weekdays from 10am to 4.30pm or ‘when they say so’ (no public holidays), so get in quick before you’re left waiting outside! So whether you’re a vegetarian or meat eater, why not get a healthy giant burger that’s got good value and great taste! 😉
