The Store, North Adelaide

It’s been close to a year since I last visited The Store on Melbourne Street in North Adelaide. This time, things have changed; The Store has gone through new renovations and expanded in size (their previous grocery store no longer exists). There are plenty of seating options available, including booths, outdoor, indoor and bar seating with an open kitchen for all to see. The places looks good; clean, warm and inviting and the logo revamp melds well with the new look and feel of The Store. *thumbs up* Let’s see how the food fares:

the store, coffee
Chai latte and soy latte; $3.40 and $3.40

Ever since I had corn fritters at Bills in Sydney, I’ve been quietly been on the look out for something similar in Adelaide. What luck, it was on the daily special chalk board, so no guesses as to what I ordered whilst C went for the mussels. 🙂

the store, mussels, corn fritters
Mussels in white wine, garlic and parsley with grilled sourdough; $16.00
Daily special- sweet corn fritters on crispy bacon and an avocado, chilli and coriander salsa

The mussels were plump, juicy and seasoned well. C happily mopped up all the juices with her sourdough. On the other hand, the corn fritters; although they were sweet and tasty, they were on the oily side for my liking (and more corn kernels less batter would’ve been more nice methinks). Towards the end of my meal, I felt greasy and heavy from the oil and lack of textural contrast as the fritters got soggy and soft. Soggy fritters and soft creamy avocado are not the best combo whilst in a food coma state.
