Steak night with the gang last last Friday night at Hogs Breath Cafe in Holden Hill. We figured parking would be a lot easier further away from the city considering that the Fringe opening was that night but we did attempt to make our way to the gardens (post to follow).
Byron Bay Chilli Prime Rib Traditional Cut; $31.95
Crispy Chicken Burger: chicken breast coated in seasoned crumbs, stacked with lettuce, beetroot, tomato, red onion rings and cheese, smothered with Hog’s Breath Ranch dressing; $13.50
Byron Bay Chilli Prime Rib Lite Cut: Prime rib, with Byron Bay coconut & chilli sauce; $24.95
My Byron Bay chilli prime rib lite cut was delicious but slightly overdone – I ordered medium rare but got medium well done. Oh well, I still savoured each bite with a slather of the chilli sauce which has a heat rating of 7/10 but don’t be fooled, it’s not even hot! I’d give it heat rating of 1/10 but then again, I think I’ve lost all sensation on my tongue so I can’t register ‘heat’ like a normal person would. That… or I just like my stuff crazy hot. They don’t give you much sauce with your steak to begin with so more likely than not, especially if you like sauce, you’d need to order extra.
Service was friendly and informative with a slight hiccup. One of our water glasses were dirty with residue marks so we asked for a replacement; our waiter assured us that they were just scratches and that they clean and scrub each glass individually. We don’t doubt that they do clean their glasses but this particular glass was dirty (bumps were felt when our fingers slightly brushed across the glass and we could SEE residue) and we just wanted a replacement. It’s dirty, just get us a replacement please and problem solved.
Slight hiccup aside, steaks were awesome, juicy and tender! Curly fries on the side are always a winner too. YUM.
