Surprise birthday dins for Big D at Sparrows on the night of Earth hour so lots of candles were out and in use when the clock hit 8.30pm.

Gnocchi with mushroom, grilled peppers, fontina and toasted almonds; $28.00
Grilled spatchcock marinated in mojo verde served with olive polenta, chorizo, tossed vegetables and lemon jus; $32.00

My spatchcock looks a bit… charred? Luckily it wasn’t burnt though; the meat was moist and juicy with tasty accompaniments of creamy polenta and vegetables. I thought the serving size was relatively small and ended up poking at N’s gnocchi towards the end of the meal cause I was still hungry. Heh. That was some goooood gnocchi! :)~

Sparrows has been taken over by new management so for those of you thinking of using your Entertainment card, don’t bother cause they don’t accept them anymore. In turn, they were going to waive any tapas ordered from the menu but we didn’t order any! A few sides were waived instead. 🙁 If we knew earlier, we would’ve looked at going elsewhere. Oh well.

    It’s lovely to have a candlelit dinner on your birthday. What perfect timing. And I love spatchcock – great choice. The menu has so many of my favourites xx

    I went there about a year and a half ago, I wodner if it’s changed much with new management. I had some amazing anchovies on toast, but other than that we found everything quite oily.

        Hi again, nope it was different – they were straight out a can. They came in the can on a wooden board with the most amazing butter….
