A quiet and casual din dins with the girlies a few Friday nights ago at Thai by 3 Monkeys – a new Thai eatery on the outskirts of the CBD. The place was buzzing with a steady flow of patrons and the atmosphere relaxed and lively. Bonus points to the wait staff who were super attentive and friendly, our water glasses were never empty during our meal. 😉
So how does the food rate?
Chicken satay: grilled marinated chicken breast on skewers topped with peanut sauce (4); $8.90
Moist chicken meat with a heavy lashing of peanut sauce, I would have preferred the sauce on the side cause the sauce kind of overpowered the satay sticks for more liking.
Thai fish cakes: minced fish mixed with chilli paste, thai herbs served with cucumber, sweet & sour sauce (4); $8.90
Chewy bouncy fish cakes with a nice hint of heat.
Pad Thai: Thai stir fried thin flat rice noodles with bean sprouts, crushed peanuts & scented sliced red onion, chicken; $13.90
A favourite and a must have dish at any Thai restaurant according to my dining companions. 3 Monkey’s pad thai, however had a thin flat rice noodles and not the wider flat rice noodles that we’re more accustomed to so that was… different. A heap of fresh bean sprouts sat on top of the pad thai providing some crunch and freshness to the dish.
Red duck curry: boneless roasted duck fillet will red chilli paste, coconut milk, lychees, pineapple, cherry tomatoes & thai basil leaves; $18.90
Friendly service, okay food and great location; plenty of dessert options within walking distance to end the night off! 😉
