A pit stop at Blessed Cheese for a coffee and a Ploughman’s plate to share.
Ploughman’s plate: local small goods, Blessed antipasto; “Alexandrina Compass” cheddar; Blessed tomato relish, cornichons, “Brians” olives and bread; $24.00 at Blessed Cheese
A generous amount of food, and all so tasty! Yum.
After a few wineries we make it to our reservation at d’Arrys Verandah for lunch.. Mmm.. lunch!
We opted for 2 courses per person at $65.00 each.
Lobster medallion with blue swimmer crab and prawn ravioli and lobster bisque; lobster entree $10.00 surcharge
You know.. if you’re gonna come to McLaren Vale, just go here, order this dish in either entree or main size (PICK THE MAIN), and savour every bite. SO. FREAKING. DELICIOUS. Everything was so perfect. The ravioli was perfection, cooked al dente with a delicate, sweet filling of blue swimmer crab and prawn… and the lobster bisque. Oh man, that lobster bisque had so much flavour that wasn’t overpowering but balanced the dish out perfectly. Bliss.
Sashimi of tuna and Iberico Jamon mille feuille with manchengo foam and smoked cherry tomatoes
Pretty dish but not my kind of flavours, especially the manchengo (sheeps milk cheese) foam! So strong and pungent that it overpowered my first bite. From there on after, even without the foam, the taste still lingered. Maybe that’s why the smoked cherry tomatoes were so intense as well as the Iberico Jamon… it needed to be had with the manchengo foam.. hehe!
Slow roast pork belly and sesame rice dumpling with grapefruit, mint, coriander and ginger salad and ginger beer sauce
This was all sorts of yum! Shame I got full on the first few bites… that ploughman’s plate we had earlier in the day stayed around in our bellies! 🙁
Seared king salmon with roast garlic and potato smash, watermelon, mint, feta salad and candied lime chilli sauce
Another amazing dish! The salmon cooked perfectly with fresh, bright and flavourful accompaniments. That watermelon stack salad was the cherry on top – almost like a one bite dessert to finish up lunch. Sweet and refreshing!
Took the scenic route back home into the city.
Thanks for the surprise road trip stranger! 😉
