Lunched in Semaphore at the very popular Lickerish, restaurant of Justine and John (season 2 winners of My Restaurant Rules) on a very chilly afternoon. After braving the cold outside on their balcony for a mere 5 minutes, we quickly picked up our things and ventured inside for a table tucked in the corner away from the blustering wind outside! Hehe!
We started off with some small plates to share and one main as we’ve figured out that this is our rule of thumb when it comes to ordering food. We used to always over order and overestimate our stomach capacity but we’ve got it all figured out!
Oysters: sherry vinegar and kilpatrick; $2.80 and $3.20
Fish croquettes: barramundi and potato smash with paprika aioli; $15.00
Golden morsels of goodness. Lovely light crunchy batter with pillowy soft innards of barramundi and potato sitting on a smear of rich paprika aioli. Great start so far!
Pork belly and scallop with cauliflower, coffee and cocoa; $18.00
This was super rich and flavourful. The fatty pork belly was incredibly tender which surprisingly paired very well with the velvet sweet puree of cauliflower and earthy flavours from the coffee and cocoa – a good contrast in texture too! The scallops were pan seared with a nice golden colour and they’re even wrapped in bacon!
Pan fried duck breast, blood orange, beetroot and radicchio; $28.00
This was my favourite! Light, refreshing and vibrant flavours, textures and colours. The pan fried duck was super juicy and cooked perfectly with a touch of pink, the fresh citrus notes from the blood orange sectors added a welcome freshness to each mouthful and the beetroot and radicchio gave it a nice bite.
Suffice to say, a very enjoyable meal was had at Lickerish!
