Weekend bites: Chimichanga’s Tapas & Grill and Muratti Cakes & Gateaux

Hungry bellies after a brief stint at the gym are a common occurrence for us, and on this occasion, we happened upon Chimichanga’s Tapas & Grill on Melbourne Street in hopes of a small bite of tapas to line the stomach and tame the hungry growls.

Unfortunately for us, there was no tapas menu… nor grill of any sort. Their menu offered burritos, corn chips/nachos or a burrito in a bowl; we chose the corn chips to share and filled out their ‘order sheet’, exactly like the ones they have at Arriba Grill. So off I go ticking boxes of what I/we wanted: corn chips with chicken, red beans, corn salsa, medium tomato salsa, jalapenos, lettuce and cheese. Sounds easy enough right?

You’d think it’s an easy order to follow. Instead, we get corn chips, cheese, salsa, sour cream and guacamole… which got thrown in a microwave to heat/melt the cheese. :/ Not only does the owner (I’m assuming as it was a one man show) disregard our order completely, he *dings* the food instead of throwing it under a grill or in an oven… I mean, do it right sir! What a disaster, we quickly ate what was given and left pronto. No chance you’ll be seeing us back there any time soon. Also, if they’re gonna put a website address on their menu, it’s probably a safe bet to make sure there is a website up and running to begin with? *face palm*

Muratti Cakes & Gateaux

Onto a better and sweeter note, dessert delights at Muratti with mother bear.

muratti
Berry & apple: raspberry & white chocolate mousse with caramelised apple infused with Calvados on coconut dacquoise; $6.95

muratti
Concorde: hazelnut dacquoise disk with dark couverture mousse, cream Chantilly & chocolate meringue cigarettes; $6.95

Our favourite out of the two was the concorde although both are sickly sweet for our taste buds. The concorde was texturally ‘fun’ with the light airy chocolate meringue cigarettes that are chewy when eaten whilst the mousse balances out the sweetness. We both chugged down our waters to chase away the sweetness of it all and finished off with the fresh berries from the berry & apple to cleanse our palate.

Chimichanga’s sounds like a definite dud. I’m thinking that Arriba might have a thing or two to say about the design menu and definitely the logo!

Judging by the interior of Chimichanga’s, I would give it a miss anyway! There are too many better places to go!
