Whipped Bake Bar Cafe, Semaphore

Easy and early eats at Whipped Bake Bar Cafe on Semaphore Road, Semaphore (a few door stops away from Sotos – a fish and chip favourite down by the beach). The cafe was big and incredibly spacious with seating outside the front, inside and outside the back area. The menu changes seasonally where they make the most of South Australian ingredients, they source their produce locally, ethically and sustainably. Food is cooked to order so there may be bit of a wait time especially when the place gets busy, but trust me, it is worth the wait!

On our brunch visit, we snagged a seat outside towards the back and opted for some light healthy starters for our lazy weekend morning.

Eggs benedict; $16.50

The Stranger ordered the eggs benedict which came out with a toasted English muffin, pork hock, free range poached eggs and house hollandaise. We both found it interesting that pork hock was used, it had a smoky aroma and was salty which matched well with the rich and creamy poached egg yolks and house hollandaise, however if there was an option for eggs benedict with smoked salmon, we would have preferred the fish instead. To go with his eggs, an order of healthy juice in a mason jar was presented: a refreshing concoction of celery, cucumber, pineapple and apple; $6.50. A great and refreshing combo which has seen me duplicating the juice at home. 🙂

Sautéed mushrooms; $14.00

I ordered the sauteed mushrooms which came along with almonds, goat’s curd, poached egg on toasted sourdough. Mmmmm~ look at all the different varieties of mushrooms that were used in the dish. Perfectly cooked and well seasoned, the mushrooms varying in shapes, colour, texture and flavours were a major highlight only further highlighted by the accompaniments. The poached egg sitting in the goat’s curd was surprisingly delightful, the richness of the egg yolk complemented extremely well with the goat’s curd which wasn’t too strong. I’m definitely returning to order this dish again. :)~

Overall, a great brunch spot on a lazy sunny weekend for a coffee or fresh juice and a light healthy bite.
