Weekend bites: Citi Zen Restaurant and Press* Food and Wine

Citi Zen Restaurant

citi zen restaurant, yum cha
Mmmmm dumplings~

Citi Zen has become our ‘go-to’ spot of yum cha as of late with quick efficient service and delicious offerings. The bill after each feast has always been quite reasonable too. Armed with a pot of hot Chinese tea, a dish of chilli oil (essential) each, we ordered our dishes left, right and centre from the staff who were carrying out platters of goodies and pushing around trolleys of highly stacked bamboo steamers of dumplings galore.

Round 1 and our table was full to the brim with bamboo steamers stacked on top of one another just to make room for our own cutlery! We ordered prawn dumplings (har gao), prawn and scallop dumplings, stuffed fried bean curd rolls, fish cakes, ox tripe, pork dumplings, chicken feet with black bean sauce, prawn rice roll, fried savoury dumplings, fried prawn rolls and finished off with hot silken tofu with sweet ginger syrup and a serving of kiwi pudding. My absolute favourites and must orders from any yum cha feast are the prawn dumplings and fried prawn rolls… oh so good!

What are your favourite yum cha dishes and where’s your go to spot??

Press needs no introduction on my blog and I probably don’t need to tell you how good this place is and how highly I rate it. BUT… there’s a but, BUT, out of all the times I have dined here, I’ve never ordered their burger as their steaks and pasta has always won my stomach over. Well, it was time to try that burger and cross it off my/our list!

It has been well over a year since I last ventured here, and after the Tiger spied pics of their crab pasta making a return to their menu on Instagram, we promptly organised a dinner date with a few friends to feast on that as well as their croquettes, steak tartare, burger, fries and the delicious steak with all the trimmings! Seeing that we were going to share everything, we settled with 2 burgers.

OH MY! It sure took us long enough to treat our taste buds to this delicious thing. It was like a gourmet whopper.. but better. And those onion rings! So crisp, sweet and delicate. Dinner was great, great food and great service; no surprises there.

The funny thing was, the day after our epic dinner, the stranger and I found ourselves back at Press* for a burger and another serving of crab pasta. Haha… DELISH!! <3

I will always have heart eyes for that delectable pasta, they’ve only got the one on the menu and they do it so bloody well. Sweet, juicy nubs of crab meat with the most flavourful tomato sauce with great heat from the chilli that doesn’t overpower the dish but adds a welcomed kick to the palate. The house made pappardelle is pasta perfection as well. Mmmmmm, I think this might call for another Press date! 🙂
