The Pot Food & Wine, Hyde Park

It’s been well over a year since I last ventured to The Pot Food and Wine, luckily enough though, J wanted to cross that off her to eat list so I promptly organised a date and time and dinner was on. 🙂

Luckily, some of my favourites still remained on the menu and J let me take on the ordering reigns for the most part. 😉

My favourite pot bun from their selection, the mushroom pot bun.

Truffled mushrooms and watercress pot bun; $8.50

Small in size, but big on flavour. The bun was sweet and fluffy with earthy truffled mushrooms and fresh crisp watercress sandwiched between.

Still as good as I remembered.

Corn and coriander croquettes with chilli jam; $16.00

The croquettes were another highlight. Crispy golden casing with sweet corn kernels within accompanied with chilli jam that was hot hot hot; a good kick of heat that didn’t linger too long on the palate.

Blue swimmer crab, tomato, chilli and hand cut pappardelle; $28.00

J opted the crab pasta for her main; same one as Press* although not as dear. I got to steal a few bites and although it was good, it doesn’t quite compare to its sister restaurant at Press*.

Crispy skin barramundi; $26.00

My choice for the night. Perfectly cooked barramundi with a crispy skin accompanied with pickled beetroot, confit fennel, celeriac puree and caper butter. Loved the contrast of flavours between sourness, tang, sweetness and pops of saltiness from the capers.

The food was good and J enjoyed her time there, big tick! Service was really slow for the evening with drinks scarcely being topped up (topped up once during our whole dinner towards the end of our meals) and the music was on super loud – like night club loud. Great food is one thing but having to yell over the music and other people to hear one another is another.

On my previous visits to The Pot, we were well looked after by Carlos but after reading a comment on Urbanspoon, it seems that Carlos is no longer there. Such a shame cause he was one of the reasons why we loved going to The Pot.
