Hands up for those who haven’t been to Goodlife Modern Organic Pizza yet.
Me! That’s right. It seems as if all my friends but myself have been there and feasted on their popular organic and modern flavoured pizzas. I’ve never been before so I was pretty excited when I got invited to an event at Goodlife Modern Organic Pizza on Hutt Street.
Upon arrival, I was led out to the courtyard and upstairs to the ‘sky deck’ for a few nibbles, drinks and hellos. Who knew that they had this private area to their venue! A perfect spot for the upcoming summer nights for private events and functions. 😉
Goodlife Pizza is family owned and operated by brothers Jake and Marty Greenrod, the pair thrives on the philosophy that if you have good food, good wine and good friends, you’re in for a Good Life. The pizza joint sources produce that’s organic, fresh, in season and from regional South Australia to ensure their food is flavourful and is of high quality.
We later made our way down to the courtyard for an epic pizza feast.
Dinner table setting in the courtyard
Throughout the evening, we got to sample GoodLife Pizza classics, new food and beverage offerings including the pizza of the month (for August – I’m a tad bit late!) – The Luxe!
How’s this for a decoration piece on the dinner table!
That’s what $1,000 worth of truffles look like!
All pizza bases are prepared with SA’s own Laucke Organic Flour, filtered water, fresh yeast and aged for over 24 hours.
Swiss brown mushrooms; $23.50
First up, the Swiss brown mushrooms pizza.
A thin base with an abundance of thick juicy Swiss brown mushrooms marinated in organic balsamic vinegar with an organic lemon aioli garnish. Gotta love them mushrooms! The large blobs of lemon aioli gave it a nice kick and tang that complemented well with the earthiness of the mushrooms; a really interesting flavour combination that I thoroughly enjoyed.
‘Quickly, take a pic before everyone digs in!’
Margarita hand crushed organic tomatoes, oven roasted riverland tomatoes, SA mozzarella cheese and home grown Italian basil; $19.90
Bright, zingy and a light pizza topping that really showcased the individual ingredients with fresh and juicy tomatoes, melty cheese and aromatic basil. I thought the pizza could’ve stayed in the oven for a smidge bit longer to crisp up the base a bit more as the tomatoes made the base a bit soggy.
Look at the size of them prawns! A large, plump and juicy prawn on each slice on top of sweet Spanish onions, basil and hot chilli pieces on a tomato and cheese base. Delish!
I couldn’t sample all the pizzas on offer but I did manage to have a slice of their very popular Asian inspired free-range roasted duck with shitake mushroom and spring onion ginger jam. This got the thumbs up from me with its intense roast duck flavour tempered down by the shitake mushrooms.
Then the one that everyone was waiting for…
The Luxe pizza
During the month of August, GoodLife Pizza celebrated truffle season with ‘The Luxe’ pizza featuring Tasmanian black truffles (also known as Ascomycete fungus), organic potatoes, aioli and truffle oil. Are you drooling yet? The Luxe was delicious with just cooked moreish potato pieces, creamy aioli blobs, fresh black truffles shavings on top and a drizzle of truffle oil. Yum yum yum! What a winning combination of ingredients bringing out the taste of the truffles.
The muffled silence on the table was a reflection of how much of a hit The Luxe was.
Then came the ‘Truffle Showdown’.
It was presented by Marco Marinelli, also known as ‘The Mushroom Man‘, who supplies GoodLife Pizza with the finest quality truffles and is renowned as an expert in the mushroom industry thanks to his experience, passion and enthusiasm.
Guests were treated and got to sample fresh truffle shavings from Tasmania, New South Wales and Western Australia before deciding which one they enjoyed best.
Amazingly delicious. An acquired taste but really enjoyable. Earthy, intense mushroomy smell and a bit nutty.
GoodLife Pizza has also created their own wine called Happy Days with another soon to be released Reincarnation Red. Happy Days, which is stocked in all three Good Life Pizza restaurants, Peel St restaurant and East End Cellars, is a 2013 vintage with a 50% Shiraz and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon variety. Designed specifically to complement Good Life Pizza’s food offerings, Happy Days is a one year old, easy drinking, vegan-friendly red, with deep purple tones and a touch of new American oak. Reincarnation Red is also a 2013 vintage but will be released in 2015 as a two-year old red.
