Koko Black’s exclusive new Oasis Summer Dessert range is finally here, and as a result, they have kindly invited us to visit their Adelaide salon to sample their creations.
We visited during the late arvo over the weekend and surprisingly the in house cafe wasn’t as busy as it was on my first visit – almost a year ago. We opted to grab a seat upstairs away from the shoppers on the ground level and have some down time whilst we had a look through the menu and people watched from up above.
Our waitress informed us of the new summer additions to the menu along with her recommendation of the salted caramel ice chocolate, so naturally, I figured we’d try the few that she mentioned – salted caramel ice chocolate included!
Mango and vanilla ice cream spectacular; $9.50
The first of our desserts was an ice cream concoction of vanilla bean ice cream with caramelised coconut crumble, all of which accompanied with a small jar of mango coulis.
Mango coulis in action
Ice cream will always be a winner during the summer months and this mango and vanilla ice cream spectacular will be sure to please the young and old. Two scoops of refreshing and cooling vanilla ice cream paired with a nice contrasting textural element of caramelised coconut crumble as well as a thin crispy tuile perched on top and brightened by the vibrant summer flavour with mango coulis drizzled over to complete the dessert.
Salted caramel iced chocolate; $8.50
My beverage for the day was at the waitress’ recommendation – the salted caramel iced chocolate. Salted caramel is always a winner in my book; the hint of salt always helps bring out the sweetness more in the caramel, as it did in the iced chocolate drink. Other flavours on offer in the iced chocolate range is the classic Belgian, mocha and raspberry purée – the raspberry purée sounds amazing! I’ll have to try it next time.
Chocolate hazelnut cluster; $10.50
Our final dessert was the most decadent of the lot. A dark chocolate hazelnut brownie topped with a chewy milk chocolate caramel and a Gianduja Cremeux. Sounds amazing, yes? It was pretty good and quite rich, although I did think it was too rich for the summer months and would have liked to see a raspberry coulis or fresh strawberries to accompany the dessert – just to brighten up the palate, but that’s just a personal preference. Regardless, it was a winning dessert with the chocolate coated hazelnuts that lined the top of the dessert being my favourite element with the gooey dark chocolate hazelnut brownie base followed a close second. It’s definitely going on my ‘to order again’ list.
Now that’s what we called an afternoon snack – Ha! Thank you Be Known and Koko Black for having us. 🙂
