Well that was one epic, crazy, fun, unforgettable, food-filled long long weekend in Singapore! Yes, you read right, Singapore! Instagram and Facebook followers would have caught whiff of my constant spamming of photos whenever I could get WiFi access as I quickly uploaded the deliciousness. As the story goes, I was recently appointed as Chief Chowzter for Adelaide where I joined the largest global network of food bloggers in finding the tastiest feasts and the best restaurants to visit in Adelaide.
What or who is Chowzter you ask? They are a global network of the food bloggers from around the world, in search of the tastiest ‘Fast Feasts’ on the planet. Although the term ‘fast feast’ might be mistaken for ‘fast food’, it isn’t so. A fast feast is something that is locally sourced and freshly prepared by a passionate and inspired artisan, where the fast feast, or food reflects the local culture, history and traditions of that particular city and country of origin. These fast feasts are served in local restaurants, cafes, diners and street stalls rather than in exclusive restaurants. So that means, for people like us, we get a ‘foodie friend‘ who lets us know where to go and eat and what to order in each city around the world at an affordable price!
The Chowzter Asia 2015 Awards (#ChowzterASIA) was held in Singapore this past weekend on the 8th of March 2015, where all Asian Pacific Chief Chowzters were invited with many flying from all over Asia to Singapore for the event. Over the course of three days, we were all treated to an epic food tour with the Singaporean Chief Chowzter taking us to some of the most famous hot spots around town for Singapore’s famous chicken rice, mud crabs and popiah–just to name a few.
Singaporean Chief Chowzter, Catherine presenting the ‘Chowzter’s Tastiest Overall Item in Asia for 2015’ to Douglas Ng from Fishball Story (Psst, keep a look out in the coming weeks for our experience at Douglas’ hawker store as we were lucky enough to feast on his delicious creation!)
There were nominations in 11 categories, with Adelaide making it in 4.
- Tastiest beef: Beef tartare, salted radish and crisp at Press* Food & Wine
- Tastiest breakfast: Creamy truffled mushroom ragu at Bar 9
- Tastiest sweet: Hazelnut heaven at Steven ter Horst
- Destination dining: d’Arry’s Verandah Restaurant
Unfortunately we didn’t pick up an award this time around, but our neighbouring cities of Melbourne and Perth did, picking up tastiest pork at Chin Chin and tastiest breakfast at Harvest Espresso respectively. The best thing about these awards is that they put a spotlight on local chefs where their fast feasts are recognised, celebrated and shared with others.

Chief Chowzters stayed at the Carlton City Hotel (Facebook), which was within walking distance to Chinatown and Maxwell Food Centre, Ann Siang Hill and Club Street. The staff were great, the rooms were surprisingly large, clean and very comfortable, and the facilities were superb! Free WiFi throughout the hotel, outdoor rooftop pool, gym and the breakfast buffet was pretty awesome too. 🙂
The stunning floral chandelier in the hotel lobby!
Breakfast buffet… oh them carbs!

Keep a look out for more Chowzter Asia Singaporean posts in the coming weeks! We can’t wait to show you what else we feasted on.
Thank you to Jeffrey, Sam and Natalia for the amazing experience! We had an unforgettable time, it was so nice to meet you and the other fellow Asian Chief Chowzters. 😉
