So who’s checked out the newly renovated Brickworks Marketplace in Torrensville? We had a sneak peek a week or two after they opened and was met with a massive line up of cars trying to get into the car park but fast forward a few months, and the hype has definitely died down and finding a car park is a breeze now! The new shopping centre houses a supermarket, department store, speciality stores and a few restaurants, one of which we were luckily enough to be invited to: Cicheti (Product of Italy) for a feast!
Cicheti shop front from inside the shopping centre
Remo Russo and his team from Cicheti treated the bunch of us to a massive 4 course extravaganza of Italian food in true Italian tradition with matching wines. The restaurant which is located at the front of the shopping mall is large, open, warm and inviting with exposed high ceilings, exposed brick walls and warm timber accents contrasting against clean white tiles in the open plan kitchen.
Freshly shucked oysters to start
The pasta at Cicheti’s is just like the ones that your friends nonna makes! It’s cause Remo Russo’s mother actually hand makes the pasta on site!
Gnocchi in the making!
Once everyone got seated along the massively long table, the food poured out of the kitchen… get ready!
Antipasto: vegetarian frittata, sliced prosciutto wrapped in rockmelon, sliced salami, marinated fior di latte and marinated olives
Duck arancini with tomato salsa
Oh these deep fried rice balls with braised duck, mushrooms and mozzarella were a treat! They were served with a side of fresh tomato salsa to brighten up the palate with peppery rocket leaves.
Vitello tonnato: chargrilled veal with seared tuna, tuna aioli, capers, celery leaf and watercress
Now that was only the first course of starters… then came out these massive plates of heaped pasta for us to share!
Fettuccine granchio: crab meat, garlic, dill in a cream and tomato sauce
Gnocchi with duck and porcini ragu – nonna’s handmade gnocchi!
Mmmm~ You’d think everyone would have rolled out by then, but that was only the beginning! We couldn’t stay long on this occasion but we were told that mains of bistecca tagliata with eggplant relish rocket, tomato and grana, chargrilled king prawns with saffron potatoes and salsa verde, chargrilled ribs with smoked herbs and saltimbocca were delish and well worth the second servings!
Looks like we’ll have to build up an appetite and have a pit stop at Cicheti’s next time, possibly after some retail therapy at the Brickwork Marketplace! 😉
