Turi Bar E Caffe, Adelaide

Authentic Sicilian goodies can be found in the heart of our city at Grenfell Plaza at the red and yellow Turi Bar E Caffe, situated in between Hugo Boss and Red Door Bakery on Grenfell Street.

The folks here pride themselves with authentic recipes using the best local and fresh ingredients with an extensive drinks menu including a handpicked selection of beer, wine and spirits imported direct from Italy as well as a cocktail menu for a cheeky drink during lunch or after work come Friday evenings.

Sicilian Kiss

Speaking of which, I capitalised on that ‘cheeky’ drink after a stint at work on one of those flaming hot days during the Christmas break and treated myself to the Sicilian Kiss, a vibrant concoction of Gin, Campari, pear nectar and fresh squeezed orange juice. Chilled and the perfect thirst quencher in 40 plus heat!

The Tasting Plate; $27.00

They have a number of different tapas on offer, and as per usual, to avoid the pressure of having to ‘pick’, we went ahead and opted for the tasting plate at a costly $27.00 which gave us the island mix of green olives, artichokes and caper berries, a block of Fontina cheese, arancini balls, sopressa (salami), sun dried tomatoes and a pile of taralli, an Italian cracker much like a bread stick or pretzel, very dry and extremely hard to ‘chomp’ through. The tasting plate wasn’t a hit with us, nor was the hefty price tag… let’s hope the panini fared better cause it sure looked appetising as it hit our table.

Turi Bar E Caffe, Cotoletta di Pollo Coleslaw panini
Cotoletta di Pollo Coleslaw panini; $8.50

We shared the panini and opted for the parmesan crumbed chicken breast with coleslaw. The crunchy toasted Turkish bread got a tick of approval but that was where the ticks stopped. Unfortunately, we found the chicken to be overdone and quite dry, and the coleslaw didn’t offer much relief either in terms of a ‘sauce’ or dressing to soften or moisten each mouthful. Such a shame cause the well priced panini looked pretty darn good too, maybe it was just one of those off days?

Turi Bar E Caffe

A casual spot for lunch with a relaxed and casual vibe for city workers. They offer a breakfast menu too for the super early birds. 😉 Turi bar’s cannelloni has also been voted as the best in town, so cannelloni lovers, there’s something for you to try… and maybe report back! Haha 😛
