New Japanese tapas style restaurant from Melbourne has taken up precedence on Gouger Street in place of the once high end Celsius Restaurant. Most of the decor has been left intact so you’ll be treated to a rather slick, modern and contemporary looking Japanese eatery serving over 80 different tapas style dishes, all priced at $6.80 each!
Reasonably priced although we still thought it faired on the ‘dearer’ side in comparison to similar like dishes at other nearby Japanese spots. Gyoza Gyoza would be a nice spot for a late night feed/snack and some chatter.
Takoyaki: deep fried octopus with mayo; $6.80
Tori no karaage with mustard miso; $6.80
Crab claws: deep fried crumbled crab claw with tartar sauce; $6.80
Somehow we picked all the deep fried goodies that evening. Crispy exterior on all plates however the salt levels were quite high and prominent on our palates. The whole visit was based around their green tea monstrosity desserts that we spied on their online menus, however they’re only available at the Melbourne stores and not here. Boo!
Gyoza Gyoza is translated from Japanese dumplings and yet we did not order any… Heh! 😛 They’re made fresh daily and in house; enjoy them with a nice cold Japanese beer or a warm flask of Japanese sake. Plenty of choices in terms of food and beverages to suit any palate.
