2KW Bar and Restaurant has launched their all new winter dining menu and latest cocktail collection. The lovely folks there have kindly invited us along to kick off their exciting winter launch with a preview on what’s on offer.
It may be cold and wet during these winter months, but the rooftop bar is still open and covered well blocking out the elements with shades, cover and most importantly, gas heaters!
For the evening, we got to sample all 4 of their new cocktails–a perfect way to warm our bellies up.
Boomer Beach: Tequila, almond, lemon with a hint of chocolate; $19.00
Barrel Aged Rosita: Reposado tequila, vermouth, The Italian, aged in the barrel; $19.00
The Barrel Aged Rosita was my pick for the evening! Boozy, smooth, warm and long lasting without the fluff and added sugar.
The other two newbies:
Plane Tree: Sherry, chestnut and orange; $19.00
Coconut Old Fashioned: Ron Zacapa 23yr old, pineapple, coconut and orange; $20.00–a different spin on Don Draper’s drink of choice with a prominent coconut aroma. I wasn’t a huge fan of the coconut flavour and preferred their peanut spin on it… that or just stick with the plain ol’ original cocktail and ya’ll can’t go too wrong with that.
Chocolates, dehydrated orange slices and chocolate coated orange slices for decoration… or for eating? I must say, those choc covered orange slices were deeeeeeeeeee-licious… 😛
Sample sized portions of the new food menu additions soon flowed out of the kitchen which was a much needed relief to soak up some of that booze.
Here’s how the full dishes look like:
Super salad (top left): flowering broccolini, roasted cauliflower and brussel sprouts, kale, grains, seeds and cauliflower tahini; $24.00
Yum, yum and yum! Loved the super salad, so colourful, tasty and all them textures. Delish.
Trio of duck: duck prosciutto, rillettes, paté and pickled walnut jus gras; $18.00
The visually striking trio of duck was a great starter and would be perfect as an entree dish to share. The delicate thin duck prosciutto covered a mound of duck rillettes, duck pate and decorated with pickled walnut jus gras. It almost looked like a pink jellyfish blob on the plate… a very tasty one!
Mushroom patch: a selection of mushrooms, purple basil, turnip puree, porcini and carrot marmalade; $28.00
Crispy deep fried enoki mushrooms, hells yes!
Josper roasted calamari with lentil ragu and green chimichurri; $22.00
The new food additions were bright, light and full of flavour but not your typical winter warming and comforting dishes. A delicious add on to your meal as a perfect starter or side dish. Check them out this winter as the menu is now rocking and rolling at 2KW!
