Queen’s Birthday public holiday is officially done and over. Just one more public holiday left (Labour Day) to go this year before Christmas rears its festive head around! Meanwhile, before then, why not treat yourself to a cheeky express work day lunch at Coal Cellar + Grill for only $25 which includes a choice of main (which changes every fortnight), a glass of house wine, beer or soft drink and a coffee!
We were treated to experience their express lunch a few weeks back at the newly revamped Hilton Adelaide and whilst it is an ‘express’ lunch, we stayed a little bit longer and got to sample their new dessert menu too!
Warm crusty bread with soft Australian cultured butter
Below is a sample of the mains that were available during that fortnights express lunch rotation.
Seared salmon, mandarin gel, fennel and sultanas
This was probably the winner with most as more than a quarter of us ordered the crisp pork belly!
Crisp pork belly, braised red cabbage and apple puree
Shell pasta, roast zucchini and saffron cream
Coal grilled lamb cutlets, freekah tabouli and orange thyme creme fraiche
And to cap things off, we got to sample the desserts on their restaurant menu!
Lime curd and strawberry jelly: short crust crumbs and peppered meringue
What a beaut! Super vibrant, visually beautiful, texturally fun and super tasty too. The favourite from the lot we tried. The lime curd and strawberry jelly was firm yet soft at the same time, kind of like something in between a panna cotta and a hard set jelly, tart yet subtly sweet with savoury-esque crumbs and a peppery crispy sweet meringue. Mmm~
Grilled figs and mascarpone mousse: honey walnuts, rosemary toffee and balsamic scented ice cream
Chocolate marquise: orange sauce, candied ginger and coffee glaze
Apple bread and butter pudding: rhubarb sorbet and apple cider crisps
