Mandoo Korean Dumplings, Adelaide

Can anyone else feel that spring is in the air?! Warmer weather isn’t that far away now! YAS!

But before then, check out this massive hot pot we had to combat the freezing weather as of late. It was the perfect food comforter, plus being cheap and cheerful is always a bonus! πŸ˜‰

Spicy kimchi hot pot (serves 2-3); $55.00

Where to find this giant hot pot which well and truly fed three humans? The little Korean dumpling shop aka Mandoo Korean DumplingsΒ on Bank Street in the west end of the city. (Ps. any duo tempting to demolish this thing, major props to you!) Get in early as there always seems to be a line up when we’ve walked past! The bubbling cauldron consisted of 4 types of dumplings (pork, chicken, vegetarian and kimchi), tofu, pork, a variety of mushrooms, glass noodles, rice cakes, cabbage, vegetables and fish cakes, all swimming in a spicy kimchi broth… although spice levels could go a notch I say – which can be easily catered for! Just let the staff know. πŸ˜‰

Order your hotpot at the counter and wait for the monstrosity to arrive. Give it a couple of minutes for the broth to bubble up, a staff member will pay a visit and mix up the ingredients whilst soaking them in the hot broth, wait a bit more and dig in! Talk about service! Not only that but as the hot pot bubbles away and you slowly sink the level of broth in the pot, the staff will pay your table a visit and top up the soup stock free of charge!

Accompanied side dishes and dipping sauce

Along with your hotpot, there’s a number of side dishes that accompany it (seaweed salad, pickled veggies and kimchi), enough to cover your table entirely so keep them phones in your pocket/bag to save room for food and cutlery. Heh!

The mandoos (dumplings) are the stars here, they can be ordered on their own – steamed or fried. Watch them get made as well at the front counter as the owner chef probably hand crafts hundreds and thousands of them every week!

Other Korean favourites make the cut on their small menu include udon noodles, soup dumplings, bibimbap and bibim mandoo.
