Mama Jambo, Adelaide

Mama Jambo, eliza street

Meet Mama Jambo, Eliza Street’s newest warehouse cafe in the west end of the city serving breakfast and lunch with an African flair. They’ve taken over what used to be Hello, Yes and added a bit more vibrancy and life to the place, which also serves as an art and music venue opening til late on Friday nights.

Like the norm in cafes around Adelaide, they use fresh, sustainable and local produce whilst serving organic coffee and for the ones that are constantly wired, there’s also free wifi too!

As of late, I’ve been one to say no to ‘smashed avo’, cause why would pay $15+ for smashed avo when it can easily be made at home? (Technically, that could be said for everything… haha but smashed avo is smashed avo right?) But then… the 62 degree egg got me and I was like… fine, okay, take my money. So smashed avo it was for me!

Smashed avocado with feta, slow roasted tomato and 62 degree egg plus dukkah; $16.00

Oh the simple things.

Smashed avo artistically smeared on the plate and on toast with the yummiest slow roasted tomato my tastebuds have tasted in a long time. Our guess was that they slow roasted them juicy thangs in bacon fat of some sort, seriously… you could taste the smokiness of bacon… so damn good. Then there was that 62 degree egg of pure creaminess, jiggle and velvet goodness in a ‘just cooked’ egg white casing with sprinkles of dukkah for crunch, spice and texture. YUMMO. I did try to look for the feta and it was hidden in amongst the smashed avo but there wasn’t much of it to be found.

PS. now that I have mastered the 62 degree egg at home, no more smashed avos and 62 degree egg orders for us! Haha.

MJ’S big brekky; $22.00

If the smashed avo isn’t really your thing? Try something heartier and meatier like their big brekky with spiced sausage, double smoked African beans, poached eggs, roasted tomato with sourdough.

Pop by, say hello or Jambo (hello in Swahili) and enjoy your coffee. Breakfast is served all day and lunch starts from 11am. Bar snacks are served on Fridays from 6pm.
